It&#8217;s the tool a Cost Control Department reaches for when a spreadsheet stops being enough \u2014 especially on construction and other project-based work, where costs need to be tracked center by center, category by category, from day one of the project to close-out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<strong>rabio_2026_09<\/strong>&nbsp;release is now available for download, and it&#8217;s the most significant update to the Open Source edition since&nbsp;<code>rabio_2023_03<\/code>. We compared both packages file by file \u2014 here&#8217;s exactly what changed for Open Source users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Reports That Finally Render Correctly Every Time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The single biggest fix in this release:&nbsp;<strong>PDF report export<\/strong>. In the 2023 edition, wide cost-breakdown tables could overlap, clip digits, or wrap header text mid-word once a project had more than a handful of centers and categories. This release rebuilds the PDF layout engine so that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Page size (A4 or A3) is\u00a0<strong>selected automatically<\/strong>\u00a0based on how many columns a report needs \u2014 no more manually guessing which size will fit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Column widths are calculated from the\u00a0<strong>actual rendered font metrics<\/strong>, not an assumed font, so numbers and bold headers never get clipped or overlap again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long header labels wrap cleanly between words instead of splitting a word in half.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your team gave up on exporting Budget vs Actual reports to PDF because the output looked broken, this release is the reason to try again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Modern, Up-to-Date Front-End Libraries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every vendored front-end library ships fully updated \u2014 no CDN dependency, still works completely offline:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Library<\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">2023_03<\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">2026_09<\/th><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Bootstrap<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">5.2.3<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>5.3.8<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Font Awesome<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">6.3.0<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>6.7.2<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Chart.js<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">4.2.1<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>4.5.1<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We deliberately kept Font Awesome on the 6.x line rather than jumping to a newer major version \u2014 some of the icon names RABIO&#8217;s interface relies on are only guaranteed to exist as aliases in 6.x, so staying there avoids any risk of a broken icon after upgrading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. A Faster, Simpler Installation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Setting up a new RABIO Open Source install used to mean importing two separate SQL files in the right order. Not anymore:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Database structure and required reference data are now combined into a\u00a0<strong>single\u00a0<code>database\/rabio.sql<\/code>\u00a0file<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 one import command and you&#8217;re done.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>System requirements have been refreshed and clarified:\u00a0<strong>PHP 8.1+<\/strong>\u00a0(tested against 8.3) and\u00a0<strong>MySQL 5.7+ \/ MariaDB 10.2+<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installation instructions now explicitly cover a step that&#8217;s easy to miss but breaks the app under modern PHP if skipped: pointing\u00a0<code>rb_bootstrap.php<\/code>\u00a0at the correct path via\u00a0<code>.htaccess<\/code>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note for anyone upgrading from rabio_2023_03:<\/strong>&nbsp;the folder structure has changed (the old&nbsp;<code>application\/<\/code>&nbsp;wrapper folder is gone), so this is a fresh install into a new directory, not a file copy-over. Point the new install at your existing database and you keep all your historical cost data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.
